Beautiful: The ABCs of Beauty in the Eyes of THE Beholder ‘A’

“Able”

‘marked by power, intelligence, competence, skill, giftedness’

Ephesians 3:20 NLT

“Now glory be to God! By his mighty power at work within us, he is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope.”

Powerful? Nope. Intelligent? I have my moments. Competent? Rarely. Skillful? Sometimes. Gifted? Well, I’ve been told on occasion….

The definition of ‘Able’ can be a very daunting definition for most of us. Really – who can live up to all those attributes in one package? So at this moment you have probably had a few people flash through your mind that seem to have all of the above in their little finger and in the next moment you deflated a little because you compared yourself and found yourself lacking. Didn’t you? No worries! There is one word in that definition that is just for you! Drum roll, please…. ‘Marked’. As sisters with Christ, we are marked by God himself. John 15:16 tells us that we did not choose God, but that he chose us and appointed us to go and bear fruit. This word proves that we are marked, but it also reminds us that God appoints us to be able. “Go and bear fruit”, He says. So what then when our ‘to do’ lists are longer than our day and we are sure that what does get crossed off hasn’t even been done 100%? First, remember to come up for air. Being superwoman was a dream lost when the Garden of Eden became off limits. There is a day coming when that will be remedied, but that’s not today! So just breathe – and ask for help. There is no shame in leaning on the family of God. God has all that we need: both from His own hand and through the hands of His children. 2 Corinthians 9:8 says, “God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, you will abound in every good work.” The definition of ‘Able’ for us should read: ‘marked by HIS power, HIS intelligence, HIS competence, HIS gifts’! Do you believe God is able? Christ asked two blind men that very question and they believed. And when they believed, God moved in their lives! We are only mirrors that reflect God’s ability. Every moment, weak or strong, reflects God’s strength. So rejoice! You ARE able!
